Doha [Qatar], October 14: Secretary-General of the Shura Council HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud said the address delivered by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the opening of the council's second ordinary session of its second legislative term, corresponding to its 55th annual session, would serve as a key guide for national and institutional work in the coming period.
He said the address set out visions and directives that would shape priorities and advance development and modernisation across various sectors.
In a statement on the opening of the new session, Al Mahmoud said the Shura Council's General Secretariat was committed to translating HH the Amir's directives into institutional programmes and initiatives under its 2025-2030 strategy.
"The strategy focuses on improving administrative, technical and legal operations, developing support services, adopting digital solutions and innovative practices, strengthening governance and enhancing performance efficiency. These efforts are intended to improve the secretariat's readiness and capacity to support the council in exercising its constitutional powers," he said.
As the new session begins, the secretariat aims to build on the institutional achievements of the previous period and continue improving its systems and procedures, Al Mahmoud said, adding that it also plans to make greater use of modern technology to support plenary sessions and committee work and strengthen coordination and cooperation with relevant entities, helping ensure the smooth functioning of the legislative process and the quality of its outcomes.
He emphasised that investing in and developing national talent remained a key priority. This would involve strengthening employees' professional and specialised skills, preparing qualified Qatari leaders for the future, expanding institutional partnerships and exchanging expertise with counterpart institutions in Qatar and abroad.
Al Mahmoud also highlighted the importance of strengthening public and media engagement and raising awareness of the Shura Council's work and constitutional responsibilities.
The Shura secretary-general expressed deep appreciation for the support and care extended to the Shura Council by HH the Amir.
He said the General Secretariat would continue working as a unified team and mobilising its resources and personnel to serve the council and its members, providing the support needed to enhance its effectiveness and help fulfil the leadership's aspirations and serve Qatar and its citizens.
