Tokyo (Japan), October 20: Japan logged a trade deficit for the 14th straight month in September, owing to soaring import costs being further inflated by a weak yen, the government said in a report Thursday.
According to the Finance Ministry, the deficit stood at 2.09 trillion yen (13.94 billion U.S. dollars), in the reporting period.
The country's imports increased 45.9 percent, while exports were up 28.9 percent in value terms, the ministry said in its preliminary report.
Japan's trade deficit for the six months to September, meanwhile, stood at 11.01 trillion yen (73.43 billion U.S. dollars), the ministry said.
