U.S. dollar rises modestly after prior session's weakness

New York (US), October 19: The U.S. dollar edged up in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.09 percent to 112.1310, following a 1.13 percent drop in the prior session.
In late New York trading on Tuesday, the euro was up to 0.9853 U.S. dollars from 0.9850 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.1317 U.S. dollars from 1.1363 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar increased to 0.6295 U.S. dollars from 0.6294 dollars.
The U.S. dollar bought 149.19 Japanese yen, higher than 148.89 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.9951 Swiss francs from 0.9957 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3780 Canadian dollars from 1.3721 Canadian dollars.
