Jun 05, 2025
5 June 2025, ANI, Senapati/ Imphal (Manipur) : Manipur is leading the way toward a healthier future by embracing organic farming. In the scenic Senapati district, farmers are cultivating fruits, vegetables, and vibrant flowers using eco-friendly methods. Thanks to its ideal climate and year-round demand for flowers in religious, medicinal, and decorative use, the region has become a hub for profitable floriculture. At the heart of this green revolution is young entrepreneur Chokhone, whose vision has transformed flower farming into a thriving enterprise. Her efforts have empowered local farmers — especially women — by connecting them to markets and turning sustainability into success. Mao is known as the ‘Land of Flowers’ for its wide variety of blooms like cosmos, strawflowers, orchids, and irises. Attracted by its commercial potential, hundreds of farmers are joining this venture, creating valuable employment opportunities in rural areas. Beyond flowers, organic fruit farming is also gaining momentum across Manipur. At Manipur University, a team of eleven like-minded students has launched an organic watermelon farm on campus, using fully organic and integrated farming methods. The organic watermelon farm at Manipur University marks a fresh start in sustainable agriculture. It's a proud achievement for the university and a source of inspiration for the entire state. This initiative shows that with vision and dedication, young people can drive meaningful change and build eco-friendly, profitable farming models.
