Paris [France], September 3: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said he doesn't want to play for Gabon for now in connection with incidents around the last Africa Cup of Nations.
"They humiliated me and dragged my name through the mud, even though I played in the Africa Cup despite my injury," Aubameyang said on the Talent d'Afrique programme of Canal+ Media outlets in Gabon also widely reported 37-year-old Aubameyang's withdrawal from the national team.
Gabon lost all three group matches of the tournament in Morocco December 2025 and January 2026.
The country's government then suspended the team and excluded captain Aubameyang. After a new sports minister, Paul Ulrich Kessany, a former international, took office, the suspensions were lifted.
It is not his first retirement from the national team. Aubameyang informed the federation in a letter in May 2022 that he would no longer be available in the future. He returned a year later and now has 80 caps and 40 goals.
Former Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea and Olympique Marseille forward Aubameyang is now at Deportivo A Coruna. The veteran is showing good form, scoring three goals in three games for the promoted La Liga side.
